On this page you are looking at some of my favorite
paintings I have done.
|
First, I’d like to
introduce you to “Ginny”, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mathis, Beanblossom, Indiana.
Ginny is a
delightful young lady and was a pleasure to paint.
She is sitting in
front of the fireplace at The Ordinary restaurant in Nashville, Indiana.
Ginny is wearing a
period correct ensemble. All the items
around her are authentic pieces as well, along with her doll.
The whisper on her
lips was totally impromptu while we were doing the photo shoot.

This portrait is of
Mr. General Grant, native of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe,
Cherokee, North Carolina.
I feel privileged to
have had the opportunity to work with General and to have shared quality time
with he and his family.
His clothing was
handed down to him by his grandfather.
The broach (head-dress) and breastplate are authentic Cherokee. His shirt and leggings are Iroquois, from
the tribe his grandfather traded with
The western style
bit in the horse’s mouth was apparently “borrowed” from white people.
The horse’s name is
“Possum” and we all did the photo shoot for this painting deep in the Great Smoky Mountain
Park.

I call this
portrait, “La Rosa” (The Rose)
This painting was
done on a commission, but I include it here as one of my personal favorites.
We did the photo
shoot in the facilities of Gerdt Furniture, Southport, Indiana.
The pillow she is
resting her arm on took by itself over 20 hours for me to paint.

“The Bride” was painted from a scene following the wedding
ceremonies during a bright, sunny day.
It was a difficult painting to do since I was working from a
photo taken by someone else. I don’t
like to do that, but there are always exceptions.
The bride and her dress were stunning in person and also on
canvass.

“Lula” works at The Ordinary Restaurant in Nashville, Indiana
and is a very dear friend of mine.
We placed her in an 1800’s dress and set her up in front of
the fireplace.
The painting now hangs on the rear wall of the restaurant.
Stop in, have a great meal and check out the painting. Of course, make sure you ask for Lula.
